NEWS RELEASE

Our community rallies to the cause again and again and we are so very grateful. Much gratitude to the Alliston Firefighters’ Association for their extremely generous donation of $12,800 to cover the cost of a state of the art hospice bed.

Captain Mike Toutant and President Bill Mercer along with members of the association present the cheque to staff members of Matthews House Hospice. The Firefighters’ Association is the first group to fund a bed and they would like to issue a challenge to other groups, clubs or associations to do the same. Matthews House Hospice is looking for 10 groups to fund the necessary beds for their 10 new residential rooms.

Matthews House Hospice is a home in the heart of South Simcoe that offers both residential-based care to people in the last stages of their lives, and community-based programs for people dealing with grief or a life-limiting illness. It lets residents spend their final days together with loved ones in an environment that is peaceful, comfortable and meaningful. It is staffed by a dedicated team of professionals and volunteers who provide compassionate, palliative care to meet residents’ every need and ensure that each moment counts.

Matthews House Hospice is almost set to open the Centre of Excellence for end of life/palliative care in Alliston to assist community members for all of South Simcoe. As a palliative care Hub, the new facility will combine both community and residential care, support groups for residents and families including education regarding end of life/palliative care. Opening July 12.
