Visitors to the Essa Agriplex, near Thornton, enjoyed the first of two days of the Essa National Draft Horse Show events, plus the Equine Mounted Games Canada competition, on Saturday.
Draft horses are known for their strength, endurance, and docile nature.
Historically, draft horses were used for manual labour that mostly involved the plowing of fields, and they were bred for their endurance and ability to work long hours on a farm.
Despite being powerful, most draft horses have a docile temperament and are fairly calm animals to be around.
The event continues Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
