While summer fun may seem like a long way off, residents will have an opportunity tomorrow night to view the concept drawings for Newmarket’s third — and first fully accessible — community splash pad.
The splash pad, to be located in Ward 6’s Dr. Margaret Arkinstall Park in the Summerhill South and Sawmill Valley Drive neighbourhood, was approved in the Town of Newmarket’s 2018 budget.
It will have a harvest theme and you can expect to find giant apples, strawberries, cucumbers, carrots and lots of shade, said Coun. Kelly Broome, in whose ward the splash pad is located.
"The accessibility is the really exciting part," Broome said. "The entire water park is planned to be fully accessible, barrier-free fun for all."
The splash pad is now in the design stage, with construction expected to start in August and an anticipated opening of summer 2020.
The Tuesday, Jan. 22 public meeting from 6-8 p.m. will feature Broome, along with town staff, to present the pad’s design and concept and answer any questions from the public.
The town's second splash pad was opened last June in the Frank Stronach Park on Memorial Circle.
The Ward 6 community splash pad meeting is at the Town of Newmarket Municipal Offices, 395 Mulock Dr.
