Darts league targets Bradford food bank for Christmas donation

Thursday Night Darts League at the Legion not only has fun, the players do some serious fundraising.

The folks at the Royal Canadian Legion in Bradford West Gwillimbury have made giving back to the community part of their mission.

They hold fundraisers for the food bank, support local veterans, and donate regularly to Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket.

And the Thursday night darts league not only gets together to play darts and socialize every week at the legion, they use the opportunity to raise money for a charity of choice.

For the past four years, that charity of choice has been Bradford’s Helping Hand Food Bank. On Dec. 13, the league donated $551 to the food bank, raised at their annual fundraising night in November, and collected nearly 1000 pounds of non-perishable food.

Over the past four years, the Thursday darts league has donated more than $2,000 to the food bank – just in time for Christmas.

“This is fantastic,” said food bank president Anne Silvey, who attended the presentation.
