Craft fair a “win-win” for vendors, BWG students

“Anything they collect is totally theirs to keep."

Tracey Lazar and Val Boucher combined their talents and organizational skills once again to hold another Country Craft Show and vendor fair at Bradford District High School.

The fair is a “win-win” for everyone, Lazar said.

Vendors get to participate in a show held in a central location. School departments can set up booths for free and fundraise for their programs. Students volunteer to help with setup and take-down and earn community hours.

And shoppers can browse and purchase crocheted and knitted hats, quilted items, baby blankets, throws, leggings, handmade soaps, jewelry, Casa Nicnac’s fairly-traded Nicaraguan pottery, and much more.

Sisters Debbie Beally and Raya Azoulay are the “Mad Platters” — taking old dishes and tea cups, and transforming them into tiered serving stands and jewelry holders, as an homage to Grandma’s old china and the tradition of tea time.

The greenhouse program at the school held a plant sale, selling off large tomato plants, peppers and coleus for a donation of $1. The plants were left over from its own community garden.

The school’s hospitality department organized a barbecue outside.

“Anything they collect is totally theirs to keep,” Lazar said. “It’s just nice to see the kids benefit.”

She and Boucher already have plans for their next event — a Christmas Craft and Artisan Fair.
