Skydiggers share a stunning rendition of Gordon Lightfoot’s classic, Song for a Winter’s Night, out now. Listen here.

The new holiday single is being released in conjunction with the 10th anniversary of their album, Angels. The band originally recorded Song for a Winter’s Night in 2013, alongside the other tracks on Angels.

“We had more songs than we wanted to include at the time, so we ended up leaving it off. It was a welcome discovery when we heard it again recently, and we wanted to share it to mark the 10th anniversary,” says Andy Maize.

The album Angels also featured their popular version of Good King Wenceslas.

The band is set to light up the holiday season with their annual A Skydiggers Christmas tour, making stops in Hamilton, Meaford, and more, before bringing it home to the Danforth Music Hall. This year, they’re ending on a high note by ringing in the new year with their friend, Paul Langlois, at the Ottawa New Year’s Eve Charity Ball. Further info and tickets are available at www.skydiggers.com.

When Skydiggers recorded and released Angels 10 years ago, they wanted to convey that the most moving moments of the season are more than just expressions of glad tidings and comfort and joy. There are moments of melancholy, regret, and truth that are, in their own way, as much a part of the Christmas experience as any joyous carol.

“Angels are with us throughout the year, and with their guidance, we are free to celebrate our quieter, more personal moments as well,” the band explains. “Ten years later, we still feel the same, and if anything, our commitment to expressing the multitude of emotions that embody the holiday spirit has only gotten stronger.”
