The Child & Youth Advocacy Centre of Simcoe/Muskoka (CYACSM) wish our accredited COPE facility dogs, Moose and Beacon, the happiest of birthdays! They turn three on Sunday.

Moose (Barrie Centre) and Beacon (Orillia Centre) have been such a welcomed and valued addition to our team and communities.

Acting as our goodwill ambassadors for children, youth and their caregivers, Moose and Beacon provide canine assisted therapeutic interventions including emotional/relaxation support, deep pressure therapy, canine comic relief and demonstrations of their 60+ skills, tricks and commands to provide a sunny distraction when needed.

Moose and Beacon have greatly enhanced our work in all capacities, but foremost by softening the often stressful environment of the forensic interview with police and/or child protection professionals when a young person under the age of 24 years disclosures they have experienced physical/sexual abuse, sexual exploitation or sex trafficking.

We love you Moose and Beacon and wish you both a Happy Birthday with heartfelt gratitude for your dedicated service providing unconditional comfort and support to our most precious community resource, our children.

ABOUT THE CYACSM:
The Child & Youth Advocacy Centre of Simcoe/Muskoka is a child and youth-centred space in which multidisciplinary professionals provide focused services to young people ages 3 to 24 years who have experienced physical, sexual and emotional abuse or who have been exposed to domestic violence.

We understand that when young people have experienced these forms of trauma, the disclosure process can be frightening, confusing and overwhelming. The Child & Youth Advocacy Centre is a welcoming space designed to reduce stress and promote healing.

In partnership with the CYACSM, police officers and child protection workers conduct forensic interviews, trauma informed social workers provide counselling, specialized paediatricians provide well-child examinations, and advocates support and assist children/youth and their caregivers throughout the disclosure, investigation, court process and beyond.
