Cadets’ Corner is a weekly column submitted by the 37 Orville Hand air cadets group.
The 37 Orville Hand Air Cadet Squadron has spent the past few weeks practising for the upcoming annual on the procedural way to receive an award, test taking, as well as reviewing flight formation.
The Annual Ceremonial Review is scheduled for Sunday, May 28 and is a mandatory event for cadets. They are required to attend in order to pass their levels.
Families are invited to see the cadets and get to acknowledge and show their pride for their children’s achievements over the last training year.
To change it up for cadets, last week they got a break from annual review practice and partook in the Canadian Fitness Assessment (CFA). The CFA is composed of five evaluations, which are designed to evaluate cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength, and flexibility.
These tests include a 20-metre shuttle run (cardiovascular), push-ups (muscular strength), curl-ups (core strength), back saver sit and reach (flexibility), and shoulder stretch (flexibility).
Five levels may be achieved. The base minimum is participated. The incentive levels include bronze, silver, gold, and excellence. Criteria for each level differs according to age and gender.
The CFA’s goals are to provide accurate and reliable information about a cadet’s personal fitness; promote regular, enjoyable physical activity for cadets so they can reach and maintain a level of personal fitness that will contribute to good health and well-being; help leaders determine cadet needs and guide cadets in planning personalized physical activity programs; and recognize cadets for establishing physical activity behaviours that will lead to fitness development.
