Cadets’ Corner is a weekly column submitted by the 37 Orville Hand Air Cadet Squadron.
Who pays for air cadets?
The Air Cadet program is funded by the Department of National Defence in partnership with the Air Cadet League of Canada. The civilian sponsoring committee requires local community support to meet its obligations that include accommodations, training aids and equipment and program enhancements not otherwise provided.
Since its inception in 1941, more than 1.2 million young Canadians have been members of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets. Each year, more than 25,000 youths participate in the program. We are proud to be able to contribute to the development of these young men and women as they become outstanding citizens ready to face the challenges of an ever-changing world.
Your financial support helps us enrich the cadet experience by:
- Increasing flying opportunities;
- Providing academic scholarships;
- Enhancing programs such as music and effective public speaking;
- Expanding aviation career training courses to meet industry needs; and
- Enabling recruitment, screening and training of volunteers to work with cadets.
The Air Cadet League of Canada and the Ontario provincial committee and its squadron sponsoring committees are first and foremost fundraising organizations. The first agreements between the Air Cadet League and the Department of National Defence solidified that role, and it has been that way since 1941.
Be part of a proud tradition and an exciting future — support the 37 Orville Hand Air Cadet Squadron.
This Saturday, Jan. 13, the squadron sponsoring committee is holding a bottle drive at the Royal Canadian Legion at 115 Back St. in Bradford from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All money raised from empty bottles and cans will go directly back to the local cadets.
In March, cadets will be out in the community for their Spring Tagging Blitz at local businesses.
Please come by this Saturday to say hi, bring your empty bottles and cans, and support a great local organization that supports the youth of Bradford.
