CADETS’ CORNER: Cadets take final lesson before Christmas

Growth of squadron improves sizes of classes

With the growth of 37 Squadron, cadets were placed into combat the two flights, the Snowbird and Arrow flights, this past Thursday. Having the flights means more friendly competition among cadets as well as smaller group sizes for lesson plans.

These two flights were originally created and named four years ago when the founding cadets chose and voted on the flight names.
The Canadian Forces Snowbirds, are a Canadian icon comprised of Canadian Armed Forces members and National Defence Public Services. The Arrow name comes from the Avro Canada CF-105 Arrow, which is a delta-winged interceptor aircraft designed and built by Avro Canada.

The first-year cadets spent several classes learning about the Daisy 853C air rifle that the air cadet program uses. The lessons in the classroom were to familiarize the cadets and to prepare them for the range day held last Saturday. The lessons included identifying the parts of an air rifle, safety precautions, applying basic marksmanship techniques and following the rules and commands on an air rifle range.

Last Saturday the cadets participated on the first range day of the training year. We cannot run a range without proper supervision, which includes a fully trained safety officer.  The squadron was fortunate to secure two safety officers, Capt. S. Lusk and Capt. P. Lusk who assisted with the success of the day. for the

Level 2's did team building exercises. They learned about team building and qualities of a a good leader. Level 3s learned how to command a flight and the sequence of preparing a flight for parade. Level 4's have organized an evening of fun before the squadron holiday break that will include festive colours or ugly sweater attire and games.
