Bradford West Gwillimbury, ON  – The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury has approved a staggered reopening schedule for the BWG Leisure Centre, beginning next week and rolling out over the next few months.

The aim of the gradual reopening is to comply with provincial restrictions and guidelines, allow time to bring back staff and train them on new protocols and to ensure the safe re-entry of all patrons into the centre.

The reopening schedule addresses the four primary areas of the BWG Leisure Centre:

1. Ice rinks: Ice rinks will reopen starting Monday, September 14. Initially, the ice rinks will be available only to local minor junior sports organizations and skating clubs. Later in the fall, more availability will open to local private user groups for bookings, and eventually for leisure skating. Upon reopening, only user groups with booked space will be permitted to enter the facility. All users must complete a self-prescreening online prior to attending the facility.

2. Fitness Centre: The Fitness Centre will reopen starting Monday, September 28, allowing a limited number of patrons at a time to comply with gathering limits and physical distancing guidelines. All members and users will be required to pre-book their space online. More information on fees, hours of operation and how to book space is available at: www.bwgleisurecentre.ca/FAQ.

3. Aquatic Centre: The aquatic centre will open later this fall, with the date to be announced. There will be no fall session of swimming lessons.

4. Gymnasium: The gymnasium will open later this fall, with the date to be announced.

As the BWG Leisure Centre reopens, and programs and activities start, residents will find registration information online at www.bwgleisurecentre.ca and on the @BWGLeisure pages on Facebook and Instagram.

“We have always been absolutely committed to offering recreational opportunities to our residents in a healthy and safe manner,” says Terry Foran, Director of Community Services. “COVID-19 has presented some unique challenges, but over the closure period we have done extensive planning and implemented additional precautions to ensure that all staff and participants are safe in our facility. We thank all residents and Leisure Centre members for your patience and understanding as we bring programs back to you in a safe and controlled manner.”
