Coun. Doug Lougheed dramatically resigned from his position as Ward 1 councillor after nearly two hours of talks surrounding integrity commissioner Janet Leiper’s report at Innisfil council on Wednesday night.

The resignation occurred immediately after council voted to impose sanctions on Mayor Gord Wauchope and Coun. William Loughead only, opting to suspend remuneration for each for 45 days.

While the council vote to adopt the findings of the integrity commissioner in relation to Lougheed was defeated with Coun. Donna Orsatti, Coun. Stan Daurio and Coun. Carolyn Payne all opposed and the sanctions part of the motion also defeated, Lougheed said that wasn’t enough.

“Three voted against me... I’m done with the Town of Innisfil,” said Lougheed after leaving the meeting.

Watch for the full story on the dramatic developments tomorrow morning.
