Bradford’s Sabella Restaurant offering discount for first responders and healthcare workers (5 photos)

Local Italian restaurant is grateful for the community’s support throughout the pandemic and is giving back to first responders and healthcare workers with a special discount

In the heart of downtown Bradford, Sabella Restaurant and Bar is offering a special just for first responders and healthcare workers, 30 percent off all orders.

Located at 23 Barrie Street, husband and wife owners Adel Akhavan and Sahar Amini officially opened their Italian restaurant in April of 2018. The restaurant has become a community favourite for fine Italian cuisine with a Mediterranean flair.

Head chef, Sydney O’Connell has worked at Sabella with Arkhavan since October of 2019, instantly falling in love with the restaurant's menu and ambiance. O’Connell has been working in the industry for the past decade.

“The menu was a bit different when I started,” notes O’Connell. “But over the last year, I found out what people’s favourites are and have modified some recipes for convenience."

O’Connell says that the top sellers are the pasta dishes – fettucine alfredo, penne a la vodka, and ravioli – and their sandwiches have recently become a big hit, such as the chicken parmesan, which is new on the menu.

“Since the holidays, we’re selling more sandwiches than ever,” notes O’Connell, adding that the veal parmesan and meatball sandwich are also popular sellers. “Everything is homemade!”

The restaurant also serves delectable cakes, with their traditional chocolate cake being their most popular. All cakes are from La Rocca Creative Cakes and are delivered fresh every week.

Catering is available with 24-hour notice and customers may contact Akhavan directly for a separate list of menu items and platters available.

“Anything you can get on the regular menu, you can get large orders of," shares O’Connell, who highly recommends the tray of lasagna which is her favourite. “We also have veggie trays and meat and cheese platters."

Sabella is not the first restaurant Akhavan has operated. He used to own restaurants in England at locations in Nottingham, Derby, and Chesterfield, and has over 35 years experience in the restaurant industry.

“I want to thank everybody for their orders and continued support,” expresses Akhavan. “We’ve noticed, and wish to thank you!”

Akhavan wanted to give back to the community and started by offering all first responders and healthcare workers a thirty-percent discount off all orders.

“Adel is very generous and community oriented,” says O’Connell.

Sabella’s online platforms for delivery are through DoorDash, UberEats, and Skip the Dishes, and are participants in the BWGtakeout challenge organized by the Town of Bradford and the Bradford Board of Trade BWG Takeout Challenge

Akhavan says they will be taking advantage of the Town of Bradford’s patio program again in the early spring until restaurants open back up fully. New hours are Sunday – Thursday from noon to 8:30 p.m. and Friday – Saturday from noon to 9 p.m.

“[The patio program] was a good segue for people to come by again and eventually led to people coming back inside last summer,” shares O’Connell. “This new normal however has given us time to become more efficient."

Sabella will be creating a unique Valentine’s Day special (stay tuned!). To view Sabella’s menu, visit: www.sabellarestaurants.com
