For those who do not know, the Leo Club is a service organization — for kids.
It’s the “Junior Lions,” explained Bradford Lions Club member Bill Bargent. It is a club which focuses on serving the community and is supported and mentored by the Lions.
The local Leo Club has grown since it was launched last year. The kids elect their own executive, decide on their own fundraisers, and determine where the money they raise will go.
They have held dances and other events, and on Saturday were at Pumpkin Fest at the new Henderson Memorial Park, handing out water and hot chocolate on a chilly autumn day. There were long lineups for both the hot dogs barbecued by the Lions, and the Leo’s hot chocolate.
“The Leos are serving well today,” said Bargent on Saturday. “They’ll probably sell out!”
The young Leos went further. About mid-way through the festival, they took to the main stage to present the town with the proceeds of their fundraising to-date — a donation of $500 to sponsor a bench at the new park.
“I’d like to thank the Leos for their donation,” said Mayor Rob Keffer, who was joined by members of council as he praised the youth for their commitment to the community.
