A celebration of community hockey returns to Bradford West Gwillimbury on Saturday, February 9, 2019. The eleventh annual Hockey Day in BWG will take place in Bond Head at Bud Brown Park from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Age division teams IP and Tyke from the BWG Minor Hockey Association compete against each other in a day of outdoor on-ice fun. Participants will receive a medal from the Mayor & Council during a medal ceremony. A variety of entertainment will take place inside the Bond Head Community Centre, along with a pancake breakfast and barbecue lunch hosted by the Bond Head Lions Club.
Hockey Day in Canada was born in Toronto in 2000, and is hosted in a different Canadian town each year. The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury launched the local event in 2009 as a way to celebrate a favourite winter sport and bring the game back to basics with a fun, friendly tournament.
“We are incredibly fortunate to have passionate, dedicated community groups and local organizations to help us to Hockey Day in BWG a great experience for everyone,” says Bethany Kuboniwa, Leisure Events and Marketing Coordinator. “Our thanks go to our event partners – the BWGMHA, Bond Head Lions Club and Bradford Orthodontics.”
