This is the final week of class before the summer break, and schoolwork probably is not top-of-mind in most classrooms.
But Fred C. Cook Public School held a Canada Day celebration and assembly on Tuesday to help wrap up the year — and present a very important award.
The Grade 3 HERO Award, which stands for honesty, empathy, respect and optimism, was established in memory of teacher Cheryl White, who passed away in 2014 at the age of 34.
This year’s recipients were students Derek and Caitlyn.
“They 100 per cent display the qualities that are the focus,” said education assistant Sheri Jones, a friend of Cheryl White. “They definitely do her justice. It’s a pretty special award.”
