According to the latest census data from StatCan, from 2016 to 2021, Bradford West Gwillimbury's population grew by 21.4 per cent from 35,325 to 42,880 representing a population density of 213.7 per square kilometre with an average population age of 37.8.
There are slightly more women than men living in town, for a total of 21,690 females and 21,190 males.
There are 28,155 people (or 65.7 per cent of the population) that is aged 15-64. Children aged 0-14 make up 21.4 per cent of the population with 9,185 residents. And those 65 and over make 12.9 per cent of the population at 5,535 residents.
When it comes to household dwellings, the average household size has 3.2 people, including 1.9 children.
There are 21,380 residents aged 15+ who are married or living common law, and 12,310 not married and not living common law.
Bradford West Gwillimbury saw 1,505 new immigrants between 2016 and 2021. That was a decrease over the previous five years—there were 1,830 new immigrants between 2011 and 2015.
"In 2021, more than 8.3 million people, or almost one-quarter (23 per cent) of the population, were, or had ever been, a landed immigrant or permanent resident in Canada. This was the largest proportion since Confederation, topping the previous 1921 record of 22.3 per cent and the highest among the G7," read the Stat Canada news release.
Of the 42,335 residents who answered the census, 28,075 are non-immigrants and 13,830 are immigrants. Bradford West Gwillimbury's immigrant population makes up 32.6 per cent of the total population.
“Given that the population of Canada continues to age and fertility is below the population replacement level, today, immigration is the main driver of population growth," says the Stats Canada release. "If these trends continue, based on Statistics Canada's recent population projections, immigrants could represent from 29.1 to 34 per cent of the population of Canada by 2041."
With 13,830 total immigrants in Bradford West Gwillimbury, 6,395 came from Asia, 5,175 from Europe, 1,850 from the Americas, 370 from Africa, and 40 from Oceania and other places.
Portugal has the most amount of immigrants in Bradford West Gwillimbury with 1,570, followed by Italy (875), India (860), and Pakistan (780).
"In the past, the majority of immigrants in Canada came from Europe," the Stats Canada release said. "However, over the past 50 years, the share of new immigrants from Europe has declined, with the share of new immigrants who were born in Asia (including the Middle East) increasing. Over time, Asia has become the top source region of new immigrants, and this trend continued in 2021."
York-Simcoe saw a 19.7 per cent population increase from 2016 to 2021 with the total population sitting at 124,458 and a population density of 157.4. The average age of the population in Bradford is 39.9.
Of the 122,815 residents who participated in the census, 30,445 are immigrants. York-Simcoe's immigrant population makes up 24.7 per cent of the total population.
In Simcoe County, the population increased by 11.2 per cent between 2016 and 2021 to 533,169 with a population density of 110.6 per square kilometre and an average age of 42.6.
Of the 525,085 residents who participated in the census, 438,010 are non-immigrants and 82,290 are immigrants. Simcoe County's immigrant residents makes up 15.6 per cent of the total population.
