Bradford Lions raising funds for community

The Bradford Lions hosted another fundraiser over the weekend with proceeds going back into the community

The Bradford Lions Club hosted an e-waste drive on Saturday, with all proceeds from the recycled materials going back into the community.

"The drive went well for our first go at it," said Club President James Slykhuis.

A final total has yet to be determined based on the weight of the collected items, but all proceeds will go back to the community.

Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization with more than 1.4 million members in approximately 46,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas around the world.

The Bradford Lions Club has contributed to many community projects including the building of Lions Park, the Bradford & District Community Centre, Bob Fallis Arena and Joe Magani Park.

Money raised from their fundraising initiatives go to serve the community and various causes including minor sports, school bursaries and awards, public speaking competitions, the local food bank, Scouts and Guides, Big Brothers Big Sisters of York, Lions International Dog Guides, the BWG Santa Claus Parade, Southlake Regional Health Centre, and recreation in the community.

Slykhuis says there are no immediate plans to host another e-waste drive but it could become an annual event.

The Bradford Lions are currently selling tickets for their online progressive raffle lottery, Catch the Ace, with weekly draws to win the progressive jackpot.

Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased at www.catchtheacebradfordlions.ca
