The Bradford Legion held an official ceremony on Sunday during which 11 new members were sworn in.
The small ceremony was held inside the Bradford Legion with executive members Dave Hammond and Anne Silvey, as well as Tammy Paglia, President of the Bradford Legion. Additional support came from a few Legion members who assisted in carrying the flags during the event.
New members are required to make an official oath/declaration of loyalty to the Sovereign and Country, and to the Legion bylaws.
Afterwards, the members are given a membership pin and treated to a small reception which included salads and cold cuts, while having the opportunity to meet other members of the Bradford Legion.
"There are member perks with different benefits," said Paglia, citing discounts on car rentals, hearing services, electronics, and discounts on the Legion's hall rentals. "They can also get involved in different committees (and) participate in the Legion's sports tournaments."
Paglia provided an update on the repairs to the Legion's front entrance, after a resident drove her vehicle into the building last April.
"The prep crew was in a couple months ago and tore up the flooring and cleared the electrical lines," shared Paglia. "The masonry crew have started replacing the bricks. They are just waiting for the mortar to cure before they remove the pins and finish up."
Paglia adds the next step will be installing new flooring around the newly repaired area.
The Bradford Legion is now open on Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m in addition to their regular hours from Thursday to Friday from 4 to 8 p.m., and Saturdays from 1 to 5 p.m.
The Legion will be open during the Civic Holiday Monday from noon to 6 p.m. where they will be serving a barbecue lunch from 1 to 3 p.m. (details to follow from the Legion).
Karaoke will be starting up again on Friday, Aug. 6 at the Legion, continuing every second Friday of the month from 8 p.m. until midnight.
