Bradford Legion honours Queen Elizabeth II with ceremony (VIDEO)

'She was a true role model and the honour and respect the Legion has for her is deep and forever'

The Bradford Legion hosted a wreath-laying ceremony Monday morning in honour of Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away earlier this month at the age of 96.

After a 10-day mourning period, the Queen's state funeral was held today at Westminister Abbey in England.

York-Simcoe MPP Caroline Mulroney, Mayor Rob Keffer, Deputy Mayor James Leduc, and members of council were in attendance for the Legion's ceremony, along with members of the Legion, South Simcoe Police and local residents.

The Legion's Mike Giovanetti led the Colour Party into the Legion. The Colour Party is the group of Legionnaires, in full uniform, who carry the flags in a parade or ceremony, under the direction of the sergeant-at-arms.

The national anthem was played, followed by God Save the King and prayers from Rev. Dana Dickson. MP Mulroney and Legion President Tammy Paglia each laid a wreath and white flowers at the front table beside a photograph of Queen Elizabeth II.

"She was a true role model and the honour and respect the Legion has for her is deep and forever," said Paglia.

Following the service, guests were welcomed to stay for light snacks and refreshments.
