Things have been fairly quiet at the Bradford Farmers’ Market in November, but with the holidays fast approaching, the vendors and the market are stepping up their game.
Every Saturday, there are holiday-themed crafts and a scavenger hunt for kids — and free cookie decorating after 11 a.m.
Vendors offer everything from farm-fresh produce perfect for hardy seasonal soups and side dishes, to fresh apples from nearby orchards, to homemade preserves, jams and jellies, Everything Maple & More dips, sauces and dressings, and local honey, ideal for hostess gifts.
Too busy to bake? The Polish Baker and Sweet Annabella’s are among the vendors offering an array of freshly-baked treats — breads, buns, bagels and strudels by Chef Ryzsard Surdyk, and pies, tarts and squares by Tammy Jackson.
There are more treats, and the freshly-prepared calzones and pizzas of Chef Natalie Dubé’s Kazak’S’tand — and the aroma of fresh-brewed coffee, thanks to the Lake Simcoe Coffee Co., which will bring along its swag of printed T-shirts and sweatshirts.
And every week, the farm vendors will be joined by local artisans and community groups.
The next Bradford Farmers’ Market will take place on Saturday, Nov. 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Zima Room of the Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library, at 425 Holland St. E.
The Bond Head Women’s Institute will be on-hand, selling their new 2019 calendars featuring the historic churches of BWG for $20 each — a gift or stocking stuffer that supports the Women’s Institute’s many community projects.
The Dec. 1 market will have a Hanukkah theme, but the Dec. 15 and 22 will be Christmas markets.
On Dec. 15, join Say Cheese! artisanal cheeses and Heritage Estate Winery and Cidery from Barrie, for a cheese-and-cider pairing, and more ideas for holiday entertaining.
“Come and support your farmers’ market,” invited market manager Laura Vree.
Note: There will be no Farmers’ Market on Dec. 8, when the library hosts its Free Family Saturday drop-in program, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a Trim the Tree theme.
