Bradford family celebrates grand opening of new wood shop (7 photos)

Strange Wood Products is open for business, specializing in DIY wood projects

A new family-owned business, 'Strange Wood Products' celebrated its grand opening on Saturday morning on Simcoe Road in Bradford.

Owner Corey Ferguson and his wife Susan and three girls (Grace, Claire, and Emma) were joined by members of BWG Council, Mayor Rob Keffer, and many friends and family in support of the grand opening of their wood business.

The Fergusons have been residing in Bradford for 17 years and absolutely love the community. Corey runs another business, 'Timeout Studios', building websites and computer programs, and took up woodworking as a hobby over 5 years ago.

“I’ve always enjoyed working with my hands to build things,” shares Corey.

A year ago, while visiting friends in Strange Township, Corey decided to tie the name of the town to his business.

“You’ll never forget the name Strange Wood Products,” states Coun. Gary Lamb, who was present at the grand opening. “I like the marketing! It works, and it will go all over Ontario!”

In February 2020, Corey acquired his lease at the new shop, only to be shut down one month later due to the pandemic.

“This slowed any momentum and hindered our ability to serve customers,” states Corey, adding that many of his clients come from far distances all over Ontario. “Fortunately, we persevered and are now able to be open!”

Strange Wood Products offers responsibly-sourced live edge lumber for the crafty, artistic or DIY type. Corey also designs and builds custom furniture, wood signs, and home decor.

“In the very near future we will begin carrying an inventory of metal table legs, epoxies and wood wax for customers to use on their own projects,” adds Corey. “The past month has been encouraging with the amount of positive feedback and interest in our shop. We look forward to helping the local community with their next wood project."
