Bradford Art School Inc. opened almost six years ago in a unit on Bridge Street in Bradford West Gwillimbury – offering art classes for kids, art birthday parties, and summer camps, teaching kids the principles of colour and use of a wide range of media.
The goals and principles of the school have remained the same, but the school itself has moved.
Since January, Bradford Art School Inc. has been located at 74 John St. W. in the heart of downtown Bradford.
“We love it – it feels like home,” said instructor Sarah Yousif.
The new location offers a more intimate workspace, better natural lighting, and a connection to the community. Parents can drop off their kids for classes without struggling with Bridge Street traffic, and enjoy a coffee at a nearby coffee shop.
Bradford Art School held its fifth annual Student Art Show at the new location – an opportunity for family members and caregivers to see what their young artists have created, as they learn to master colour, shading, perspective and form.
Young artists like Shia, seven, who has been attending classes at the school for the past two years.
“It makes me happy,” said Shia, who said she was especially happy to see her work and the work of her classmates framed and on display.
“We’re proud of the kids,” said Yousif.
For the annual Art Exhibit, the Bradford location was transformed into an art gallery. There were special promotions, raffles and giveaways, along with free refreshments and desserts, and the opportunity to sign up for classes and summer art camp.
The Bradford Art School offers primary, junior, and junior advanced courses, for kids in junior kindergarten up to Grade 12. Students will work in coloured pen and ink, pencil crayon, oil pastels, watercolours and acrylics, as they learn art techniques and skills. The school also has a studio in Innisfil.
Summer art camps, for ages four to 13, include Art Extravaganza, where students explore media that range from pencil crayon and watercolour, to clay and beading; Clayworks sculpture camp; Paint, Paint and More Paint; and Mixed Media with Animals. Week-long sessions can be full- or half-day, and are instructor-led.
