St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church recognizes its original builder each year on the anniversary of his death.
Rev. Canon Featherstone Lake Osler arrived in the area of Bond Head in 1835 with his wife, Ellen. He spoke of there only being a "forest and bears." Osler had been sent to this area by the Anglican Church just before the Mackenzie Rebellion.
The Osler's 13 children were born in the area and also made contributions to Canada. Sir William Osler is known as the Father of Modern Medicine. Other Osler children were also lawyers and politicians.
Rev. Canon Featherstone Lake Osler died on Feb. 16, 1895 at the age of 90.
Monsignor Conrad Dachuck, the pastor of St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church, conducted a liturgy on Feb. 6 in commemoration.
