Residents are being asked to help meet the demand for blood and plasma at an upcoming clinic in Bradford.

“The need for blood and plasma is rising rapidly and patients are counting on eligible donors across Canada to donate this fall,” Canadian Blood Services stated. “Today more patients need blood products than we have seen over the past decade. As the population of Canada grows and ages, there has been an increase in surgeries and treatments that require blood transfusions.”

The organization notes one in two Canadians is eligible to give blood, but only one in 76 does. Also, thousands of available blood and plasma donation appointments go unfilled every week.

“At this time of year, more donors are cancelling their appointments or not booking at all due to other priorities filling their calendars. We’re asking every eligible donor to please make donating blood or plasma one of your priorities this fall.”

A blood donation clinic will take place Oct. 22 from 3 to 7 p.m. at St. John’s Presbyterian Church, 2940 10th Sideroad.

Appointments are required and can be made on the GiveBlood app, by calling 1-888-236-6283 or at blood.ca.
