Bee Able opens day program for special-needs adults

Bee Able’s day program will be offered from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday to Friday, for adults with special needs or disabilities.

Claudett Bailey was joined by family members, staff, volunteers and well-wishers at the opening Saturday of her new venture — Bee Able Inc., a non-profit organization that provides “opportunities for all people, regardless of ability, to connect their community,” she said.

Bailey, who has more than 15 years of experience in social services, with a background in emotional, social and mental health, is hoping to address the social isolation that many adults with special needs and disabilities face.

The day program offered at Bee Able Inc., combined with programs offered through a network of community partnerships, will be inclusive, accessible and inspiring.

“I believe we can become leaders for other communities and show that inclusion is not only possible — inclusion is everything,” Bailey said.

The grand opening of Bee Able was held May 26 at its wheelchair-accessible building at 13 John St. W., Unit 2, in Bradford.

York-Simcoe MP Peter Van Loan presented a certificate and praised the organization’s community hub concept, suggesting it “fills a void in our community and… will have an impact on many.”

Bee Able’s day program will be offered from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday to Friday, and includes individual and group activities, physical movement, special classes and outings.

The daily fee is $65. For more information call 905-551-3699 or email [email protected].
