For the past two years. St. John's Presbyterian Church has awarded two $500 scholarships to students from Bradford District High School (BDHS) who have demonstrated outstanding community service.
The St. John's Presbyterian Church Community Service Awards go to the student who has the most community service hours and is continuing his/her education at a post-secondary institution and the student who has the most community service hours and is entering directly into the workforce after high school. Irelands Snow was the recipient of this year's award, and was acknowledged for her efforts at the BDHS virtual graduation ceremony this past spring.
This year, the church has added an additional scholarship, the St. John’s Community Service Scholarship. The $1000 award will be granted annually to two or more students preparing for vocations in service to the church and to the world, with special attention to those students who have demonstrated significant community service at St. John’s Presbyterian Church and in Bradford West Gwillimbury.
This year, there were seven students who received the Community Service Scholarship:
- Amanda Cook—HBA Sociology at Carleton University
- Kayla Cook--BA Criminology & Criminal Justice at Carleton University
- Ashley Guay—MA Gerontology at Brock University
- Amaly Inthavong—BA Economics at Wilfred Laurier University
- Anastasia McConville—BA Communications Studies at University of Waterloo
- Jacob Reimer—MBA Business Analytics Leadership at University of Fredericton
- Taylor Reimer—MSc Communications at Purdue University
The church posted about the new scholarship on their social media in June, asking for candidates to submit an application form with references and resume, along with a 500 word essay describing their community service in BWG.
The recipients were selected by the church on Tuesday, and a letter and cheque will be mailed to all recipients later this week.
Congratulations to all recipients!
