TORONTO – A group of four from the York and Simcoe County regions have $190,350.10 to put toward their dreams after winning a LOTTO MAX second prize in the Feb. 2, 2024 draw.
The group members are:
- Mickford Durgana of Woodbridge
- Bibi Persaud of Tottenham
- Cheryl Beeler of Newmarket
- Marjan Cvetkovski of Oakville
The four friends, who all work in manufacturing, have been playing the lottery as a group for seven years after deciding they might have a better chance of winning together. Mickford was the one to discover the winning ticket. "I checked our ticket on the OLG app the morning after the draw and when I saw the prize amount, I wasn't sure," he shared while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto. "I took the ticket to the store and when I saw the Big Winner screen I was so excited! I went straight home to call the team!"
"I called Marjan and told him. He was so excited he started screaming," Mickford laughed. "I texted a photo of the prize slip to the rest of the group, so they had proof."
"It was all excitement after that," Bibi smiled. "It feels awesome!"
Some of the group members' plans for their windfall include treating themselves to a vacation, saving for their children's education, and saving for the future.
LOTTO MAX players in Ontario have won over $8 billion since 2009, including 100 jackpot wins and 862 MAXMILLIONS prizes, right across the province. LOTTO MAX is $5 per play and draws take place on Tuesdays and Fridays.
The winning ticket was purchased at 7-Eleven on Rutherford Road in Woodbridge.
