Red and white balloons, Canadian flags, strawberry shortcake, and fresh strawberries from Barrie Hill Farms – the Bradford Farmers’ Market celebrated the long weekend with a Canada Day-Strawberry Festival-Artisans’ Festival on Saturday.
Despite the heat, families came out to pick up farm-fresh produce and eggs, fresh baking, natural meats, local honey and more, and enjoy the music of performer Russ Clayton.
Market manager Laura Vree served up mini-shortcakes topped with strawberries and whipped cream to early morning market visitors. Vree used to operate Sweet Handmade Cookies at the Market. She came out of ‘cookie retirement’ to make a batch of maple leaf-shaped shortbread cookies just for Canada’s 151 birthday.
Strawberry-rhubarb-maple jam at Everything Maple and More; strawberry peach, strawberry rhubarb and butter tarts at Sweet Annabellas; and fresh strawberries at Springh Farms and Lakeview Gardens were also on the menu as the market celebrated on the Canada Day long weekend.
The Bradford Farmers’ Market, located in the parking lot just east of the BWG Public Library, is open every Saturday morning from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
