Members of the public are welcome to attend all Bradford West Gwillimbury council meetings, which take place at 7 p.m. in the Zima Room of the BWG Public Library.

There is no Committee of the Whole meeting this week.

Closed session

BWG council will start its meeting with a session closed to the public.

According to the agenda, council will discuss “proposed acquisition or deposition of lands.”

If a decision is made, council will make a motion during the public portion of the meeting.

Quaint House

Ian Cooper, a member of the town’s Heritage Committee, is expected to make designation recommendations on behalf of the committee for two properties in Bond Head.

These include Quaint House, at 4240 County Rd. 88, and the Gummerson/Thorpe Home, at 3176 County Rd. 27, which is next to Frasers Christmas Trees.

The future of Quaint House has been under particular scrutiny after its owner informed the town he wants to tear it down, save for its historic facade, and construct a mixed-use building of residential and commercial units.

The Gummerson property, according to a report by Cooper, is a “rare and architecturally stunning example of an early Bond Head farm home and under no circumstances should the building be demolished.”

Cannabis

BWG council will vote on whether to approve an interim bylaw that would prohibit cannabis micro cultivation on any agricultural, rural, march agricultural, and natural heritage system properties for one year, with a possibility to extend that, until new municipal rules are in place for such operations.

As well, council is expected to hear a deputation on the matter from Russell Bennett.

At a previous council meeting, Jackie Lunn, just one of a handful of people who have approached the town about allowing cannabis micro cultivation, said an interim bylaw could delay her licensing and force her out of town.

John Street parking lot

BWG council approved $250,000 in its 2019 budget for the rehabilitation of the John Street and Moore Street parking lot — divided between engineering design costs ($50,000) and construction ($200,000), read a town staff report.

The design process is now underway, but council are expected to vote on which option to officially select.

Some of the items up for consideration include adding three accessible parking spots, repair and extend stormwater sewer, repave the lot, repaint line markings, add more illumination, and replace the stairs at the southeast corner with an Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act (AODA)-compliant stair/ramp, read the report.

Town staff are recommending council approve Option A, which costs $297,000, but with a modification to defer illumination and asphalt resurfacing to bring down costs to what was budgeted.

Heritage plaque

A heritage plaque presentation is expected for 4308 County Road 88, BWG.

Bradford Barn

Council will vote on whether to accept a recommendation to legalize The Bradford Barn as a wedding and events venue.

The property at 3287 Line 9 in Bradford West Gwillimbury is on agricultural land and not technically allowed to host banquets.

Town of BWG staff proposed keeping the agricultural zoning, but amending it to include “on-farm diversified uses,” such as weddings, wedding receptions, and farmers’ markets.

Committee of the Whole previously made an addition to recommend allowing all types of events.
