The following is in response to 'GUEST COLUMN: Retired judge treated 'like royalty' in RVH cancer wing,' published Jan. 4.
This letter is in response to a guest column in your paper Jan. 3 from Judge Norman Douglas, who worked out of Guelph as a judge.
We live in Guelph and remember him handling cases here.
I was a registered nurse, who worked at Grand River Regional Cancer Centre (GRRCC). I have said many times that I felt I received more than I gave to patients who I treated.
I learned so much from people, and it didn't matter who they were or what they did, we treated everyone the same.
When we received a letter, such as the one that Judge Douglas wrote regarding the nurses at the Royal Victoria hospital in Barrie, we were so touched that the care we gave was appreciated. We had done our job.
Judge Douglas's column made me cry when I read it, because a flood of memories came back to me regarding letters, flowers and acts of kindness that we received when I was working.
Thank you, Judge Douglas, for expressing your appreciation to your nurses.
