BradfordToday and InnisfilToday welcome letters to the editor at [email protected] or via the website. Please include your full name, daytime phone number and address (for verification of authorship, not publication). The following is an open letter to Premier Doug Ford.
It is my understanding you have directed your PC candidates for the upcoming election not to attend all-candidates meetings. You initiated the same stunt during the last election.
One can only assume you are concerned any one of your candidates may put their foot in your mouth. If you are unable to trust what your candidates might say, I would ask why would we trust them with our vote?
All candidates should be available for all-candidates meetings so they can be accountable to the constituents in their respective ridings. If we are to remain a democratic society our government should be open and honest. By shielding your candidates from the public, it indicates there may be some nefarious dealings happening behind the scenes.
We have already seen some of these from your government with the developers holding lands in the green spaces, your handling of the Ontario Science Centre relocation, the mismanagement of alcohol in corner stores, the calling of an unnecessary election and bribing voters with $200 of our money that could have been better spent on our medical system.
Time to open up and be honest.
