The following letter from a former Bell employee who says she was 'displaced' by a similar decision in 1999, is in response to a story titled 'CTV Barrie unsure how layoffs, programming cuts impact station,' published Feb. 8.
This seems to be a repeat performance by Bell, which is more interested in their bottom line — a cold, boardroom decision that eliminates jobs to preserve shareholder dividends under the guise of competition.
The number of people who are set to lose their jobs across Canada is phenomenal and unacceptable especially when seeing the COVID-19 lockdowns in the rearview mirror. We relied on them keep us updated during those times. They showed up.
Barrie's station and the remarkable staff there should be awarded, not punished, by this self-serving decision to drop the weekend news time slots.
Shame on you, Bell Canada!
