The acoustics at the Bradford Arts Centre — the sanctuary at Bradford United Church — are remarkable.
The intimate venue, which can seat up to 200 people, provides an ideal performance space for pianists, singers — and, as the York Chamber Ensemble demonstrated on Oct. 13, for chamber orchestras and classical music.
Each instrument was given its full emotional voice in Saturday’s concert, celebrating The Art of the Concerto.
The focus was on the Baroque concerto, the cantata — with music by Bach and Respighi interpreted by flautist Jewell Devine, oboist Eleanor Marshall and violinist Michael Adamson against a backdrop of violins, violas, and cello.
The Bradford Arts Centre, currently undergoing renovations to provide expanded community space, continues to offer local entertainment in a venue that rivals the best concert halls acoustically.
Coming up in December is Voices of Good Will and Good Cheer, a holiday concert that will feature the Danube Seniors’ Leisure Centre’s Goldenaires choir and the Treblemakers Community Choir, with soloists Amelia DePiero and Mark Holmes.
The concert will take place Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. Admission is by donation.
And on Feb. 2, pianist Vlad Soloviev will present a musical valentine, a concert featuring the Music of Romance, 7:30 p.m.
The Bradford Arts Centre is located at 66 Barrie St. in Bradford. For more information on upcoming events, visit bradfordartscentre.org.
