The Learning Disabilities Association of York-Simcoe's “Social Skills” program is starting in Barrie soon. Be sure to register your child and secure their spot!
Dates: Thursdays starting April 3rd until May 8th
Time: 5:15 to 6:15 pm
Location: Barrie Public Library (Painswick branch) 48 Dean Ave
Fees: This is a fully subsidized program for low to middle income families.
The Social Skills program offers a welcoming environment where children can develop essential social skills. Your child will have the opportunity to learn:
- Interpersonal skills. i.e. communication, listening, friendship skills
- Coping with emotions and stress
- Conflict resolution and problem-solving
- Self-advocacy skills
- Self Esteem
- Bullying and cyberbullying topics
Each session is designed to be interactive and fun, featuring games and activities to keep your child engaged.
Who is this program for?
This co-ed program is tailored for children ages 8-12 with a primary diagnosis of Learning Disabilities (LD) or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). It's ideal for children who may:
- Avoid social contact
- Behave immaturely
- Be shy or timid in groups
- Frequently fight with peers
- Display a lack of self-esteem and self-confidence
- Enjoy meeting other children with LD and/or ADHD
