Scott hosts campaign kickoff event over the weekend

'If reelected, residents can count on me to continue to work hard on their behalf to get things done,' says Ward 2 councillor

Ward 2 Coun. Jonathan Scott hosted a campaign kickoff party for re-election with supporters and current members of council on Sunday at Perfect SZN in Bradford West Gwillimbury.

Scott was elected in December 2020 in the town by-election after the passing of his predecessor, Coun. Gary Baynes.

“In 2020, I pledged to get things done for Ward 2 residents, and in the past 20 months, we have delivered significant investments into the older end of town,” said Scott. “I’m running for reelection to continue to revitalize the old end of town, to protect our environment and to care for our most vulnerable.”

He spoke of his work with the downtown revitalization committee and the plans to transform Holland Street into a pedestrian-friendly shopping and dining district, the community centre revitalization project, and his work as community liaison with the food bank.

“It’s been my honour to serve as the Council-Food Bank Liaison and to champion equity and inclusion throughout town,” said Scott. “Anti-poverty measures, as well as celebrating our diversity and ensuring this community thrives as it continues to grow, are important goals to ensure everyone can reach their potential in our community. I will continue to fight to ensure everyone is included in our town.”

Mayor Rob Keffer spoke in support of the young councillor.

“There’s a lot of good happening in Ward 2 and that will surely continue thanks to Jonathan’s leadership," said Keffer. "In the 20 months he’s been on Council, Jonathan’s worked very hard to get a lot of important projects done. About 1/3rd of the roads in Ward 2 have been repaved. At budget time Jonathan has carefully gone over and identified about $200,000 in savings. Jonathan has also worked incredibly well with other levels of government to secure funding for our infrastructure and to champion environmental protection. On big projects like downtown revitalization, he’s spearheaded all the good things that will happen."

Scott was grateful for the mayor's support.

"If reelected, residents can count on me to continue to work hard on their behalf to get things done," said Scott.

After speeches from the mayor, The Helping Hand Food Bank Executive Director Carolyn Khan and Scott himself, the group of about 75 guests stayed to mingle and speak with Scott, while enjoying appetizers and drinks.

Election day is Oct. 24.
