Under the Ontario Energy Board’s (OEB) Regulated Price Plan (RPP), Alectra is reminding customers about important changes to their electricity rates during the upcoming summer season.

Starting on May 1 until Oct. 31, customers on Time-of-Use (TOU) and Tiered pricing will experience altered price periods compared to the winter season.

Alectra’s customers are encouraged to find more information on how to choose the best rate option to help electricity price plan for their homes and businesses at https://alectrautilities.com/choose-your-rate-option.

Electricity prices for both price plans, and the Ultra-Low Overnight (ULO) price plan for electric vehicle owners, remain unchanged. There is no requirement for Alectra’s customers to change their current rate plan unless they prefer a different option.

For customers on TOU Pricing:

TOU price periods change twice a year in summer (May 1 to Oct. 31) and in winter (Nov. 1 to April 30). There are three TOU price periods:

  • Off-peak: when demand for electricity is generally lower.
  • Mid-peak: when demand for electricity is moderate.
  • On-peak: when demand for electricity is generally higher.

Electricity costs depend on when you use electricity. Shifting your usage to lower price periods can help you save. The electricity you use from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. every day, and all day on weekends and holidays, is the lowest TOU price all year round.

For customers on Tiered Pricing:

With Tiered Pricing, you can use a certain amount of electricity each month at a lower price. Once that limit (threshold) is exceeded, a higher price applies.

• The monthly Tier threshold for residential customers changes twice a year: 600 kWh during the summer period (May 1 to Oct. 31); 1,000 kWh during the winter period (Nov. 1 to April 30).

• The monthly Tier threshold for small business customers is 750 kWh all year round.

For customers on Ultra-Low Overnight Pricing:

Despite the alterations, prices for Ultra-Low Overnight (ULO) rates remain consistent all year round. With the Ultra-Low Overnight (ULO) price plan, you can help manage your electricity costs by shifting high usage activities, like electric vehicle charging, to lower price periods when possible.
