Barrie police have released this surveillance image of a potential witness in a dangerous driving investigation following an incident Wednesday afternoon in the city's south end. Police say a vehicle chased a cyclist through a Mapleview Drive East townhouse complex. A woman has been charged.

In what Barrie police are calling a "rather unique call for service," investigators want to speak to a male cyclist who witnessed a bizarre incident involving an erratic driver in the city's south end Wednesday afternoon.

Police hope members of the public can help identify the man, or he comes forward on his own volition.

Shortly before 4:30 p.m. on April 24, police were alerted to an ongoing incident that involved vehicle being driven in a "dangerous manner" as it chased a cyclist at a Mapleview Drive East townhouse complex, west of Madelaine Drive.

When officers arrived on scene, they were aided by residential video surveillance, along with witness information. Investigators were able to obtain a licence plate for the person being sought for the erratic driving behaviour.

As a result of the ongoing investigation, police attended a nearby address where a 42-year-old Barrie woman, who was allegedly driving the involved vehicle at the time, was located and arrested.

The suspect has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and was released from custody a short time later. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie on May 29, 2024.

"Police are continuing with efforts to identify the cyclist who was being aggressively followed by the driver," states a news release from city police.

Police the cyclist was riding a mountain-style bike and was wearing blue jeans, a black baseball style hat, a dark sweater and running shoes. He was also wearing a backpack that appears to be blue and grey in colour.

Police say they do not believe the cyclist was injured while the incident unfolded.
