A vehicle fire briefly shut down southbound traffic on Highway 400 in King City earlier today.
Emergency crews responded to a vehicle fire at about 1 p.m. today on the busy southbound lanes of Highway 400 near the intersection of King Road and Kirby Road. The driver was an 18-year-old from Alliston.
“The vehicle was on the right shoulder on fire,” said Sgt. Nicola Morris. “It was a sedan, it was fully engulfed."
There were no injuries, and its occupants were able to escape safely, she added.
Members of the King City Fire and Emergency Services extinguished the blaze. Crews shut down the highway for half an hour, rerouting drivers to the high occupancy vehicle lane.
“We allowed everybody to move through to keep the traffic moving,” said Morris.
The rest of the lanes on the highway were then intermittently reopened as a tow truck took away the vehicle, and crews cleared up debris.
