Recycling facility ablaze in Barrie's south end

'There are a bunch of recycled cars on fire at this point, and we do have crews on scene,' says Barrie Fire official

A recycling facility is ablaze on Tiffin Street in Barrie today, sending plumes of black smoke over the city.

“(The fire) is outside of the building. There are a bunch of recycled cars on fire at this point, and we do have crews on scene,” assistant deputy fire chief Justin Gilbert said.

Police are also asking the public to stay away from the Tiffin Steet and Ferndale Drive area due to the large industrial fire.

“Area businesses are being evacuated due to the heavy smoke in the area,” they said in a statement on X (formerly Twitter).

BarrieToday, an affiliate of BradfordToday and InnisfilToday, will publish more information as it becomes available.

Roads are also blocked off in the area as emergency crews respond.
